Hello environmentally conscious friends, start up organic gardeners, and compost lovers!
Welcome to Lilliworm, an environmentally friendly endeavor and home to thousands of small organic recyclers!
Reliable red wiggler worms turn local food waste into something
special to make your garden grow and your plants prosper. Fruit peels,
leftover vegetables, yard clippings, and cardboard boxes are transformed
into a completely safe nutrient rich food for your soil.
My name is Jill, and I started my first worm farm when I was in
elementary school with two great friends. After college, I came across
the book “An Inconvenient Truth” by Al Gore. In the back section, he lists tips and ideas to help the environment- one of which is composting.
In August 2007, I ordered one pound of red wriggler (Eisenia foetida)
worms and set out on my Lilliworm adventure. One pound became two, two
became four, and before long I had ten pounds of worms in five homemade
bins that could devour lots of food waste real quick. I began to see
that these little organic recyclers could make a big difference.
The whole herd was moved to a Wigwam, supported by food waste
collected from my workplace and local community. The compost began
flowing through, and I was excited to give it a try.
I started using the compost on my houseplants and new garden, sealing
it up into tea bags to use in my watering can and rain barrel. The
results were amazing- hardy leaves and stems, plus lots of flowers and
fruit!
I’m excited to share what I
learn (plus lots of other info!), provide a safe alternative to traditional chemical
fertilizers, and inspire you in environmentally friendly endeavors.
If you have any questions, concerns, suggestions, or compost success stories, I’d love to hear from you! And...if you are looking to purchase red composting worms or small bags of compost, drop me a line!
